WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Following a career performance against Middle Tennessee State last Saturday, Cedrick Cunningham Jr. was selected as the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week by the Maxwell Football Club on Thursday, Sept. 10. The award recognizes the nation's top defensive player.
Cunningham registered seven tackles, two of which went for a loss of yardage. His two stops behind the line of scrimmage against the Blue Raiders doubled his career output entering the game. He also notched his first career forced fumble and sack in Army's 42-0 home-opening win over Middle Tennessee State.
The Cassatt, S.C., native was a crucial part of the defensive unit that pitched Army's first shutout at Michie Stadium since the 2011 season. Army's defense as a whole limited the Blue Raiders to 184 yards of total offense and caused four turnovers.
Army will take on Louisiana-Monroe at Michie Stadium at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
