HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army dominated the draw in the opening half. The Black Knights took advantage of consistently gaining possession and jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Orlando, Sullivan and Raymond each found the back of the net in the first three minutes of action.
- East Carolina trimmed the deficit to one, 3-2, following back-to-back scores. The Cadets were held scoreless for over 17 minutes before capitalizing on two consecutive free position strikes from Stewart and Sullivan.
- As time was winding down in the first half, Raymond received the ball, ran through traffic and rifled a shot into the net right before the halftime horn sounded to cap a 3-0 run that put Army ahead, 6-2, at the break.
- The Cadets picked up right where they left off and scored within the first three minutes of the second half once Orlando received a pass from Manor from behind the goal and netted the shot to extend the advantage to five, 7-2. Army tacked on one additional goal to make it a 5-0 run and go up by six before East Carolina answered with two straight scores to trim the deficit to four, 8-4, with 18:21 left to play.
- Army responded by outscoring the Pirates, 3-1, over a seven-minute stretch to go ahead by six. East Carolina had one final charge left and scored three unanswered goals in the closing 2:19 of play, but there was not enough time to successfully mount the comeback and the Cadets came away with the 11-8 road win.
