Men's Tennis Secures 3-0 Weekend With Strong Wins Over Fairfield and Monmouth

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men's tennis reclaimed their dominance Sunday afternoon in back to back win's over Fairfield and Monmouth. The Black Knights opened up the day with a 4-1 victory over Fairfield followed by a strong 4-2 battle with a top-notch Monmouth team. After a 3-0 sweep of the weekend, Army moves to 9-6 on the season before heading down to Boca Raton, Fla. for a double header with FAU and Cleveland State on March 14th and 15th.
The Black Knights welcomed a competitive Fairfield and Monmouth team to the Lichtenberg Tennis Center and head coach Jim Poling was very happy with the collective performance the team had this weekend.
"We had a great weekend going 3-0 against some good competition. I am proud of the guys, they were real warriors," said Poling.
MATCH 1: Army 4, Fairfield 1
After a great outing on Saturday afternoon against NJIT to move back to a winning record, the Black Knights were eager to get a shut out on home court. The No. 1 duo of Myles Conlin and AJ Woodman found success again in doubles play, moving passed Lewis Edwards and Tyler Shibles (Fairfield) 6-3. With close battles unfolding on courts two and three, team doubles fate would come down to the wire. David Gorshein and Nathan Jose would find the finish line first, securing a match opening point for the Black Knights in a 6-3 victory.
Diego Huttepain and Anant Mundra grabbed the first two point in singles play; Huttepain with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Shibles and Mundra with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Griffin Schlesinger. The clinching point hung between the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 bout, each matchup going into three sets. Jose found the golden ticket against Stefan Mitrovic, nailing a third set 6-4 win to seal the deal.

The Black Knights struggled to find a win in the double's column in match number two, only securing the No. 2 bout with a 6-2 win from Lake and Larichev.
A strong effort in singles play allowed the team to bounce back as they posted a victory in the one, three, four, and six slot. Huttepain opened up singles play again with the first win of the afternoon followed by Conlin with a No.1 win over Monmouth's Max Benaim in a 6-2, 6-3 contest. Mundra secured the six with a 6-1, 6-2 victory of Zeiler opening the door for Larichev in the four to clinch the winning point. Larichev's three set (7-5, 1-6, 7-6) battle with Cooke Wharton grabbed point number four, moving the Black Knights to a 4-2 win over the Hawks.
