Women's Lacrosse Cruises to Road Win at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – With 15 Cadets combining to score 20 goals for the Army West Point women's lacrosse team, the Black Knights captured a 20-5 road win over Hartford on Friday night.
It was an offensive barrage for the Black Knights (4-0), who got off to a hot start by scoring 14 first-half goals against the Hawks (0-3). After building the comfortable lead, the Cadets were able to cruise to victory.
In a game in which Army outshot Hartford, 44-9, five members of the Black Knights tallied multi-goal outings, including Jackie Brattan, who made history by becoming just the fifth cadet in program history to record 100 career goals. The junior attack also finished tied for the team lead in draw controls with Julia Franzoni and Samantha Stewart with three apiece.
Stewart, Caroline Raymond, Anna Orlando and Kathleen Sullivan were the other four Cadets to score more than once opposite the Hawks and all four dished out an assist.
Maddie Miller led Army with a career-high five ground balls. She was additionally involved on the offensive end after dishing out a team-best two assists to pair with a score.
Defensively, the Cadets totaled 12 caused turnovers led by a career-high three from Charlotte Spencer. Stewart and Jolie Riedell each chipped in with two.

- Army posted its first 20-goal performance of the season.
- It was the most goals scored by the Black Knights since Feb. 16, 2019 when Army scored 22 against Hartford.
- The Black Knights were a perfect 12-of-12 on clears.
- Army totaled 16 draws, compared to Hartford's 10.
- The five goals were the fewest allowed by the Cadets since holding Bucknell to five on April 25, 2019.
- The Black Knights handed out 10 assists on 20 goals.
- Brattan extended her point streak to 24 games.
- Raymond extended her point streak to 22 games.
- Sidney Weigand, Lindsay Schuster, Paige Lennon and Riedell each scored their first collegiate goals.
- Orlando posted the first multi-goal outing of her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stewart got the scoring started for the Black Knights with a goal less than three minutes into action, but Hartford countered just over a minute later to even the score at one. Army then began to dominate the draw and five different Cadets scored to spark a 7-0 run.
- Hartford ended its 15-minute scoring drought with a goal at 9:10, but once again the Black Knights got hot offensively. This time, it was four cadets combining to put in six unanswered scores to help Army go into the break up by 12, 14-2.
- Army opened the second stanza with a score by Weigand off the feed from Miller. Hartford then tallied back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to 11, 15-4, with 20:37 left to play.
- The Cadets closed out the game by outscoring the Hawks, 5-1, en route to securing the 20-5 road victory.
