February 17, 2020 | Men's Basketball
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior Matt Wilson of the Army West Point men's basketball team was named the Patriot League Player of the Week after helping lead the Black Knights to back-to-back wins.
It marks the first player of the week recognition from the league in Wilson's career. For the week, he averaged a double-double after putting up 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 67 percent from the field.
He got things started by recording his seventh double-double of the season after scoring a game-high 20 points to pair with 13 rebounds in a 65-48 home win over Lafayette on Wednesday. Five of his 13 boards came on the offensive glass. Wilson was 10-of-17 from the floor and dished out two assists and recorded a block opposite the Leopards. In the win, the senior big moved into third in program history in career rebounds and took sole possession of ninth in all-time points at Army.
Â
Wilson followed that performance by posting a 21-point outing on 10-of-13 shooting in a 79-66 Saturday victory against Lehigh. He also added eight rebounds, two assists and a steal to his stat line versus the Mountain Hawks. His scoring output gave him over 1,500 points in his career, making him just the ninth Cadet in program history to accomplish that feat. It also marked the fourth time in Wilson's last five outings that he made double-digit shots and scored 20 or more points in a game.
He is currently on a 13-game double-digit scoring streak while ranking second on the team in points per game (16.2) and first in rebounds per contest (7.8). Wilson also sits in sixth in the nation in field goal percentage, shooting the ball at a 64-percent clip.
Wilson and the Black Knights return to action on Wednesday when they head down to Baltimore for a 7 p.m. Patriot League matchup against Loyola before hosting Navy at Christl Arena on Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. tip on CBS Sports Network.
