Army Falls to Bradley and Portland State

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. – The Army West Point softball team dropped both of its contests in its second day at the Golden State Classic. The Black Knights fell in their first decision, 12-2, in five innings to Bradley then lost in a tight matchup with Portland State, 4-2.
Ally Snelling went 2-for-3 and had an RBI in the first contest. In the second game, Taylor Drayton and Emily Ballesteros each had multi-hit games. Drayton also drove in a run.
GAME 1: BRADLEY 12, ARMY 2 (5)
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- This was Snelling's fifth multi-hit game of the season.
- It also extended her hit streak to eight games.
- Duong posted her first multi-run game of the season and the third of her career.
- Five different members of the team drew walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights got things started with Snelling roping an RBI double down the left field line, which scored Jolie Duong. Though the Braves answered back in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run homer to take the 3-1 lead.
- The Black Knights managed to cut Bradley's lead to one run in the top of the third, with Duong coming around to score her second run of the contest.
- Bradley added to its lead with six runs in the bottom of the third to push ahead 9-2.
- The Braves would later add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 12-2 lead.
GAME 2: PORTLAND STATE 4, ARMY 2
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Drayton is now up to nine RBIs on the season.
- This was Ballesteros' second multi-hit game of the season.
- Duong pitched all seven innings and allowed three earned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Portland State took the 1-0 lead with Emily Johansen scoring on a wild pitch.
- Army took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Kaci Donaldson advanced home on an RBI from Taylor Livingston with the bases loaded. Then, Alicyn Grete scored on an RBI single from Drayton.
- The Vikings posted two runs in the top of the sixth to regain the lead and then tacked on one more in the seventh to take the 4-2 advantage.

The Black Knights wrap up at the Golden State Classic on Sunday, when they take on Sacramento St.
