Black Knights Post Strong Performance Through Day 2

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Rather than compete in a normal dual match to close out the year, the Army West Point men's tennis team welcomed Air Force Academy to the Lichtenberg Tennis Center for a three-day tournament style matchup.

The Black Knights and the Falcons kicked things off with round one of doubles play on Friday night, each with a lineup of six. The duos of Nikita Larichev/Samuel Eden and David Gorshein/Samuel Haikal brought home a pair of wins for Army. Gorshein and Haikal put up the most dominant performance of the afternoon, moving past Air Force's McKendree and Ihrig in an 8-2 contest.

After being split up into two brackets, Black/Blue and Gold/Silver, both teams competed in two full rounds of singles play on Friday. Army and Air Force took an even split in the opening round of Black vs Blue, with Thomas Lake, Gorshein and Eden leading the way. Jake Huarte, Nathan Jose and Stanley Liu changed the pace for the Black Knights, commanding three of five matches in the first round of Gold/Silver.

The two teams closed out the day with two final rounds of singles; the Black Knights taking majority in both rounds. In the Black/Blue bracket, Lake, Gorshein and Eden each picked up their second win of the day while Larichev and Daniel Zhou each grabbed their first. Huarte opened things up for Army in the Gold/Silver bracket with a 6-2, 6-2 sweep, followed by wins from Haikal and Michael Rooney. Overall, the Black Knights took a 14-8 advantage over the Falcons in singles play headed into the final day of competition on Saturday.
