Drayton Named to Patriot All-Preseason Team; Army Picked to Finish Fourth

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Taylor Drayton a junior on the Army West Point Softball team was selected to the Patriot League All-Preseason team the league office announced in a release Wednesday morning. The Black Knights were also ranked fourth in the league's preseason poll.

Drayton, a two-time all-league first team member, was the Black Knights' most explosive weapon at the plate last year, finishing in the top 3 in every offensive statistic category. She recorded a .287 average (43-for-150) with eight doubles, six home runs, 30 runs scored and 27 RBI. The then sophomore outfielder added 14 walks and was hit by five pitches while going a perfect 10-for-10 on stolen base attempts.

As team, the Black Knights accumulated 44 points in the preseason poll, just four behind third-ranked Bucknell and eight more than fifth-ranked Colgate. Two-time reigning Patriot League champion Boston U. earned the top spot in the poll with 72 points and 12 first place votes.Â

The Cadets posted an overall record of 26-30 and a had league mark of 8-10 to finish in fifth place.

In the offseason, Cheryl Milligan was elevated to head coach and added Janet Maguire and Jen Consaul as assistant coaches. The Black Knights also welcomed in an incoming class of 13 freshmen.

The 2019-20 season begins on Feb. 7 with Army opening with a pair of games first against Rutgers at 9 a.m. followed by a contest with Hartford at 11:30 a.m. The contest will be played in Statesboro, Ga. Â
