Funk Earns Second Straight Player of the Week Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For the second straight week, Tommy Funk of the Army West Point men's basketball team was named the Patriot League Player of the Week.
It marks the first time a Cadet received back-to-back player of the week praise from the league since Kyle Wilson '16 did so during the 2014-15 campaign.
Funk guided the Black Knights to a 2-0 week against two of the top-three defenses in the league. In two outings, he averaged 22.5 points, 8.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest while posting an 8.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. He shot 52 percent from the field and 100 percent from the charity stripe
The Warrington, Pa., native opened the week with a double-double in a 94-74 win at Lafayette on Wednesday night. Against the Leopards, Funk posted 19 points and 11 assists with just one turnover en route to helping the Black Knights put up the most points by an Army squad since Nov. 18, 2017. He additionally held Lafayette's leading scorer this season, Justin Jaworski, to nine points on 4-of-11 shooting.
Funk then went for a game-high 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting to pair with six assists in a rivalry road win at Navy. It was his third 20-point scoring performance of the year. His performance on the offensive side of the ball allowed Army to put up 73 points against a top-20 scoring defense nationally. It was also the most points Navy has allowed at home this season.
The senior point guard continues to climb up the leaderboards in several statistical categories at West Point. He moved into 16th in all-time points and into a tie for 11th in career steals. He is currently on a 15-game double-digit scoring streak and has handed out 35 assists with just six turnovers over the last four games.
Funk and the Black Knights return to action on Wednesday when they host Bucknell for an 11 a.m. Patriot League contest at Christl Arena.
