January 25, 2020 | Rifle
PALMYRA, Pa. – The No. 11 Army West Point rifle team posted the program's second highest score since the NCAA course change in 2013-14, defeating No. 4 Akron, 4673-4666, in a Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) match.
The Black Knights edged their previous season best score of 4672, which they set against Memphis on Oct. 27.
"This was a big accomplishment today," Army head coach Web Wright said. "We got the win against a team ranked number four. They've had a great season. That said, we put together a pretty good score -- one of the program's best and certainly the highest of the season. And we had four personal bests – Kaitlyn Kutz and Christian Conrad in smallbore and Nicholas Cheshire and Spencer Gillis in air."
Kutz finished with an aggregate score of 1178, which was the highest individual score of the day. Close behind her was Clayton Hanson, who posted the second highest aggregate score of the match with a total of 1173.
With the final tally from today, Army sits at 10th in the NCAA team standings with its three scores averaging out to 4671.67.
