2020 SOFTBALL SCHEDULE
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team announced its slate for the upcoming 2020 season Tuesday evening.
Â
"We are excited to see this team compete. We have a great mix of young talent and competitive veterans who are anxious to compete," Army head coach Cheryl Milligan said. "The pitchers have made gains and are working hard, along with a versatile defense and some clutch hitting we are poised for success. A key will be maintaining our composure, our consistency and our game sense. If we can do that, we can come together for a strong showing as Army in 2020."
Â
The schedule includes three teams that advanced to NCAA Regionals last season in UT Chattanooga, Virginia Tech and Boston U. The Cadets are also scheduled to play Rutgers, which participated in the National Invitational Softball Championship.
Â
The Black Knights open their season with a pair of games on Feb. 7 against Rutgers and Hartford as part of the Bash in the Boro tournament in Statesboro, Ga. For its remaining two days at the tournament, Army will again face Hartford in addition to East Tennessee State and Georgia Southern. Â
Â
Following the Bash in the Boro, Army will play in two five-game tournaments starting with the Golden State Classic (Feb. 14-16) in Lake Elsinore, Calif., followed by the Charleston Invitational (Feb. 21-23) in Charleston, S.C.
Â
Army's final trip before opening up league play will be to Clearwater, Fla., for the Clearwater Invitational, which has 12 games slated from March 6-15. While in Florida, Army will also play Cleveland State in Longwood on March 11 at 2:30 p.m.
Â
On the weekend of March 21-22, the Black Knights will welcome the reigning Patriot League champion, Boston U., to West Point. The three-game series will pair as Army's home and league opener.
Â
The Black Knights will then travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to take on Bucknell the weekend of March 28-29, which will be followed by a series at home against last year's Patriot League runner up, Lehigh, on April 4-5.
Â
Army will break up league play with a midweek doubleheader against Rider on April 9 in Lawrenceville, N.J., before hosting Lafayette on April 11-12. Four in-state foes will follow the weekend series with the Leopards, as Army will face Albany (April 15), Colgate (April 18-19), Manhattan (April 25) and Siena (April 29).Â
Â
The Cadets close out their regular season slate in Worcester, Mass., on May 2-3 when they take on Holy Cross.
Â
The top four teams in the Patriot League will compete in the Patriot League tournament from May 7-9 hosted by the highest seed.
