WEST POINT, N.Y / MALIBU, Calif. - The Army West Point women's tennis team were coast-to-coast Friday, as players competed at both the Oracle ITA Masters and the host West Point Invite.
The majority of the Black Knights hit the courts for the West Point Invite at both the Malek Tennis Center and the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Army Welcomed 20 teams to West Point -- Air Force, Drexel, Bryant, Rutgers, Columbia, Syracuse, UConn, Stony Brook, Colgate, Lehigh, Quinnipiac, Marist, Fordham, St. Francis of Brooklyn, St. Bonaventure, Sacred Heart, Binghamton, NJIT, Fairfield, Seton Hall.
The Black Knights went an impressive 12-4 in singles play to open up the tournament. The cadets put out equally stellar play in doubles action, going 13-2 as team.
Ana Joyner also continued her run in California at the Oracle ITA Masters. Joyner battled the No. 19 seed Shir Azran of Fresno State in a three-set affair. Joyner came out fast, winning the first set 6-2. Azran rallied, taking the second set, 6-1. The third set went to a tiebreak, with Azran prevailing, 7-6 (3).
