Army Takes Finale on Senior Day

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team won its final game of the regular season with a 7-0 victory over Saint Peter's on the tail end of a doubleheader on Friday evening at the Army Softball Complex.

Prior to the games, Army honored seniors Ashley Yoo, Mae Wadyka, Izzy Gates, Renee Poirier, Maddie Kim and Carrie Reilly.

Sophomore Taylor Drayton paced the Army offense with three hits, three RBI and two runs in the second game, while Reilly tallied three hits on the day with two runs and a walk. Sophomore Megan Muffett added three walks and a run scored.

In the circle, Poirier was dominant in the first game, allowing just six hits and a run in 7.0-plus innings of work while walking two and striking out five. Junior Macey Newbary excelled in the night cap, earning her 10th win of the season with a complete game shutout. The Missoula, Mont., native scattered five hits and three walks while fanning a career-high 10 Peacocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The defensive battle was determined by a home run by Anja Solveig Kane on the first pitch of the eighth inning.

Reilly tallied the 100th hit of her career.
Army played an extra-inning game for the fourth time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Gates broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning with an RBI sacrifice bunt that plated Drayton.
Taylor Livingston put the pressure on Saint Peter's defense and scored two more runs in the inning when she reached on an error.
Drayton singled in Reilly in the following frame to extend the home side's lead to 4-0.
The Clayton, N.C., native later scored when Ally Snelling reached on an error.
She added a two-run double in the sixth to cap the scoring for the Black Knights.

Newbary notched her first 10-win season.
The Missoula, Mont., native struck out a career-high 10 batters.
She added her eighth career complete game of the season and her fifth career shutout.
Yoo's 27th run scored of the season tied her career high from 2016.
Reilly set a new personal best with 27 runs scored this season.
The Riverside, Ill., native notched her ninth multi-hit game of the year.
Drayton set a new single season career high with her 43rd hit of the season.
Livingston matched her hit total from last season with 32.
She scored her team-leading 30th run of the year.
Gates drove in the 20th RBI of her career.
Gilmore tallied the 20th hit of her rookie campaign.
