Second Half Surge Lifts Terriers over Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's lacrosse team suffered a 15-13 setback to Boston University Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers outscored the Black Knights 11-5 in the second half to secure the victory.

AJ Barretto made seven saves in the game and surpassed 500 in his career. The senior now totals 502 to rank seventh all-time at Army.

Brendan Nichtern led the Cadets with three goals and two assists on the day, while Matt Manown posted a goal and had three helpers.

Johnny Surdick caused a game-leading four turnovers. Anthony George followed with three and scored his first goal of the season. Tom Rigney registered his first-career assist today.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Terriers struck first, scoring 2:22 into the action.
The Black Knights answered a minute later when Nichtern found Nate Jones on the crease for the score.
Connor DeWitt produced a goal to give Army a 2-1 lead in just a 35 second span.
Boston and Army alternated goals to produce a 3-3 tie score after the first quarter.
Ethan Barangan won the faceoff and dished it off to Miles Silva who scored past Terriers goalie Joe McSorely.
Army produced three-straight to kick off the second quarter.
Silva notched a goal with an assist from Manown at the 12:53 mark.
Alex Alacqua set up the next two scores which were credited to George and Liam Davenport.
The Terriers netted their lone goal of the quarter with 3:19 to go.
Manown put the Black Knights ahead 7-4 off a riser goal with under two minutes to play in the first half.
With two seconds to go, Davenport scored on McSorely's weak side off a pass from Nichtern giving Army an 8-4 edge at halftime.
The third quarter was dominated by the Terriers.
Boston charged to a 10-8 lead after a 6-0 run.
The Black Knights knotted the score at 10-all off a crease roll by Nichtern and a low score by Jones, assisted by Manown.
The Terriers had four in a row to start off the final quarter to go ahead 14-10.
Army started to rally back with two goals spaced 37 seconds apart.
Nichtern had the first goal in the run before Rigney brought the ball up on transition and passed it off to Sean O'Brien for the score.
Boston netted another with 1:58 to go to claim a 15-12 advantage.
James Pryor won the ensuing faceoff and setup a goal for Nichtern.
Army gained possession of the following faceoff, but the Terriers took control and kept the Black Knights at bay.

The Black Knights travels down to Annapolis next Saturday to take on the Navy Midshipmen. It will be the 100th game between the two squads and will be aired on CBS Sports Network at 3:30 p.m.
