Black Knights Travel to Washington for NCAAs

INDIANAPOLIS – The Army West Point women's tennis team learned it is headed to Seattle, Wash. to face the host 10th-ranked Washington Huskies in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the association announced during its annual selection show on Monday evening.
"Well this is my last season, and this team has meant a lot to me," said senior captain Kirby Einck. "It's given me opportunities I never thought were possible, and to be able to wear the name Army on my chest one more time is something I'll never forget. I couldn't think of representing a better institution."
The Black Knights will be making their 15th appearance in the national tournament and second in a row. The Cadets secured the automatic qualifying bid as the Patriot League champion after defeating top-seeded Boston University, 4-3, on Sunday with sophomore Hannah Boubel securing the victory by taking a three-set thriller in the No. 5 singles position.
This will be the program's second trip to the Emerald City after facing the Huskies back in 2001.
"Well you know there's that book called 'Grit', and I think this team epitomizes that outlook," said head coach Paul Peck. "When they're willing to work together and support each other, they're able to grind it out and do whatever it takes to win. They're a great group, and I'm really proud of them because it really was a team effort with everybody contributing. It's such a rewarding feeling to qualify for NCAAs. You work so hard to get to this point, and now you have the opportunity to play one of the better teams in the country and show everybody what you're capable of."
The Black Knights and Washington will compete in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday at 8 p.m. ET from either the Quillian Tennis Stadium or the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
