April 22, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Junior Maddie Burns and freshman Caroline Raymond of the Army West Point women's lacrosse team received Patriot League weekly awards on Monday afternoon.
"I am very happy to see a few of our players recognized by the Patriot League this week after coming up with two huge road wins," Noto Family Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Kristen Skiera said. "We had so many key individual and unit performances this last week, I wish the whole team could be honored."
The Black Knights went 2-0 on the week, picking up a pair of road victories over Colgate and Boston U. en route to clinching the program's first-ever Patriot League Tournament berth.
Burns, who reeled in her second goalkeeper of the week award of the season, was stellar in goal this past week. The junior totaled 22 saves and came away with two wins to give her 10 on the year. In a Wednesday afternoon meeting with Colgate, Burns stopped 10 shots to help Army capture the road victory. Several days later, she made nine of her 12 saves in the first half against Boston U. to allow the Black Knights to grab a lead they would never relinquish before securing the win. It marked the program's first-ever win over the Terriers.
"Maddie has been playing super confident in between the pipes and effortlessly made big save after big save last week," Skiera said. "Our defenders in front of her really buckled down and brought our game plans to life."
Raymond, a four-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week recipient, continued her stellar play with a 14-point week on nine goals and five assists. The rookie started with four goals and an assist to push the Cadets past Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y., on Wednesday. She then paced an offensive attack at Boston U. on Saturday with a single-game program record nine points on five goals and four assists. The five goals were a career-best for the Mahopac, N.Y., native.
"On the offensive end, Caroline continues to be a force to be reckoned with and exciting to watch," Skiera stated. "Her athleticism, size, vision and precision has been on display and she is so challenging to match up against." Â
The Black Knights will return to action on Thursday when they close out the regular season at Michie Stadium with a 6 p.m. matchup against Bucknell.
