April 20, 2019 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point baseball team split its doubleheader with service-academy rival Navy here Saturday afternoon.
The Mids took the opener 3-0 in seven innings but the Black Knights rebounded for a 11-3 victory in the nightcap. With the day's outcome, Sunday's series finale will decide who wins the coveted "Star" for the year. First pitch for that contest is 12:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network with John Sadak and Todd Coffey on the call.
Andre Walden and Jacob Hurtubise led the Cadets' offense with three hits each on the day. Anthony Giachin chipped in two hits, while he, Jeremiah Adams and Trey Martin accounted for a team-best two runs apiece. Walden and Giachin registered four and three runs batted in, respectively, as well.
Daniel Burggraaf registered his third win of the year after giving up 11 hits and three runs in 6.2 innings during the nightcap. Tyler Giovinco was credited with the loss in the opener despite his solid outing. The senior lefty allowed four hits and three runs, all of those runs coming during the second frame, in his 6.0 innings of work.

- Giovinco nearly matched that retiring eight Navy players down at one point during the contest.

- During the following inning Titus and Giachin both notched an RBI for two of Army's three runs in the frame.
- The Mids recorded one run back in the seventh after back-to-back hits by Zach Biggers and Christian Policelli to make it a 9-3 ballgame.
- Army closed the door in the ninth after two more runs came home to extend its lead to 11-3. Walden again was the man to get the job done as he tallied a one-out, two-RBI double to right center.
