Winning Streak Snapped for Army
April 13, 2019 | Men's Tennis
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point men's tennis team's win streak was halted at seven Saturday at the Malek Tennis Center, as the Black Knights were defeated by rival Navy, 4-0.
Doubles play saw fierce competition out of the two squads, with two of three matches going to a tiebreak. Navy (28-13, 6-0 PL) would clinch the opening point with a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Mids kept the momentum going with back-to-back wins on courts No. 4 and 3 to put them one point away from victory. The clincher came at No. 6, with Peter Lohrbach taking down David Gorshein, 6-4, 6-2.
Navy will now be the No. 1 seed in this upcoming week's Patriot League Tournament, with Army (12-13, 6-1 PL) being the No. 2 seed. The bracket and official seeding for the event, hosted by Army West Point, will be announced early this week.
