Cadets Stand Strong on Senior Day

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point gymnastics team topped Springfield on Senior Day by a 395.350 – 373.300 advantage.
The Black Knights recognized their five seniors before the competition in Cole Casanova, James Gamarra, Elliott Herman, Elijah-Ty Phelps and Brandon Shively.
Mathew Davis scored a career-high 81.100 in the all-around to lead the field.

- Davis championed the floor exercise for the third time this season.
- The rookie placed first on still rings with a 13.750.
- On vault, Davis set a career-high 14.250.
- Rex Scott ranked first on high bar with a career-high 13.700.
- He topped his previous career-high by 0.300 points.
- Graham Shaw set a new personal standard on vault with a 14.400.
- He was first in the event.
- Casanova was second in all-around today with an 80.800.
- The senior championed the pommel horse and was just shy of his career-best marks with a 13.450.
COMPETITION
- Davis led things off on the floor exercise where the Cadets swept the first three positions.
- He notched a 14.150 and was followed by Herman (13.700) and Casanova (13.400) for the top-3 spots.
- Casanova paced the Black Knights on pommel horse with a 13.450.
- Shively ranked second with a 13.250 mark in his specialty event.
- Scott tied for fourth on pommel with a 12.700.
- Davis championed the still rings and set up the sweep of first, second and third.
- He turned out a 13.700 as Casanova (13.500) and Taka Giese (13.250) followed suit.
- Shaw had a career day posting a 14.400 on vault setting up yet another top-3 placing for Army.
- Davis' 14.250 was a career-best and Erik Del Cid placed third with a 14.050.
- On parallel bars the Black Knights saw a dip but would go on to dominate on high bar.
- Davis ranked third on p-bars with a 13.600. Casanova placed fourth at 13.350 and Giese was next with a 12.950.
- Scott was outstanding on high bar with a 13.700, a career-best.
- Casanova followed suit at 13.450 and Davis third (13.150).
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights are in a tri-meet next weekend at William & Mary. Springfield will also be in attendance.
