March 06, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore Jackie Brattan of the Army West Point women's lacrosse team was named the AWPAA Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Brattan played a pivotal role in the Black Knights' thrilling 15-14 come-from-behind home victory over Monmouth this past Saturday. The Garden City, N.Y., native notched her fifth hat trick of the year after tallying a team-high four goals opposite the Hawks. She also set the program record with 11 draw controls, marking the first time in program history that a cadet recorded double-digit draw controls in a game.
Her dominance on the draw is what gave Army the edge in the second half and allowed the Cadets to stage a 7-0 run. After the Hawks won the first draw control of the half, Brattan went on to win nine straight, keeping possession in favor of the Black Knights. In the final stanza, the sophomore netted all four of her goals, including the game-tying score with 43 seconds left to play.
Brattan is currently the leading scorer in the Patriot League with 19 goals on the season, while ranking inside the top-20 nationally.
Army will return to action on Friday at 4 p.m. for a non-league matchup with Virginia Commonwealth at Michie Stadium.
