Cadets Fall in League Opener to No. 10 Loyola

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team dropped its Patriot League opener to No. 10 Loyola, 21-7, on Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium.
Manuela Cortes and Jackie Brattan led the Black Knights (7-2, 0-1 Patriot League) offensively with two goals apiece. Cameron Manor, Rilee Scott and Megan Raftery each chipped in with one goal against the Greyhounds (403).
Juliana Dworschak and Brattan combined to tally 11 of the 14 draw control wins, while Stewart added the other three to pair with two ground balls.

Army will return to action on March 23 for a matchup against American in the nation's capital slated for 1 p.m.

- Brattan scored her 50th-career goal.
- It was the sophomore's seventh multi-goal outing this year.
- Cortes notched her seventh multi-goal performance of the season.
- Stewart took sole possession of third in all-time ground balls with 65.
- Raftery tied Erin Jollota for seventh in all-time goals with 27.
- Dworschak's six draw controls moved her to third in program history with 97.
- The Cadets put 16 of their 21 shots on goal.
- Hannah Slomkowski made her first start of the season in goal and posted a season-high seven saves.
- Taylor Andrews made her first start of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army won the opening draw control and went right on the attack. Less than a minute into action, Manor sent a shot into the back of the net to give the Cadets the early advantage.
- Following another draw control win, the Black Knights came down the field and this time Manor found Cortes for the score to put Army ahead 2-0 with 27:57 on the clock.
- Loyola began to get into a rhythm offensively and outscored the Black Knights, 13-3, over the final 27 minutes to take an eight-point advantage into the half.
- The Greyhounds opened the second half on a 5-1 run that lasted nearly 18 minutes. A Brattan free position score halted the spurt, but Loyola countered with three unanswered goals before securing the 21-7 league win.
