Army Falls to AIC in Game One of Quarterfinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Army West Point hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to American International Friday night in game one of the Atlantic Hockey Tournament Quarterfinals.

- The Yellow Jackets netted a pair of goals in the opening period to charge ahead 2-0.Â
- To start the third, AIC scored its third of the game 2:15 into the action.
- The Black Knights then tested Jared Dempsey in net.
- Mason Krueger took a hard slap shot in the next sequence catching Zackarias Skog off guard.
- AIC was able to go ahead 4-0 just over a minute later with a low shot and score.
- The Black Knights came out with some extra fire after that and maintained puck possession while getting quality shots off.
- On the door step at the 15-minute mark, Zach Evancho's shot danced off the pipe.
- The intensity continued to rise throughout the remainder of the game.
- Army nicked yet another pipe with 6:29 on the clock. This time it was Dominic Franco with the change during a Black Knights power play.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Dempsey stepped into net for the Black Knights and made 12 saves.
- Army killed off seven penalties in the contest.
- Heading into the game, AIC averaged 0.9 power play goals per game with a .201 efficiency.
- The Cadets led in shots 45-33.
- Dalton MacAfee led the team in shots with seven, while Franco and Evancho took six apiece.
- Matt Penta garnered 10 saves while in net.
