March 13, 2019 | Baseball
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Army West Point baseball team got back in the win column after taking down Stephen F. Austin, 5-4, here Tuesday night in extra innings.
A Blake Ledoux RBI-walk in the top of the 12th proved to be the deciding factor as Army registered its sixth win of the year. The Black Knights loaded the bases with one out following a single and two walks. Ledoux then stepped into the batters box to earn the Cadets' third-straight walk, breaking the 4-4 deadlock.
Cam Opp closed out the game in the bottom half of the 12th for his second win of the year on the mound. Opp finished his night giving up a hit and a walk in 1.1 innings.
Anthony Giachin, Trey Martin, and Jeremiah Adams led Army with two hits each. Ledoux finished with a team-high two RBI, while five different Black Knights' recorded a run in the game.

How It Happened
- The 'Jacks opened the game's scoring with an unearned run in the opening frame. The home side found themselves with runners on the corners and one out. During the ensuing at bat Sean Moore converted on a sacrifice fly ball to right field to score Nick Daley from third.
- The Black Knights responded with three runs on one hit in the top of the second inning. Back-to-back walks and a single loaded the bases for Ledoux. The sophomore then earned another walk to score the tying run. After a pitching change the 'Jacks turned a double play but not before another Army run came across home plate. During the next at bat, Adams, who was still on third scored thanks to a wild pitch to increase the Cadets' advantage to 3-1.
- SFA would not go away though as it tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth. A walk and a single to leadoff the inning forced the Black Knights to make a pitching change. Army then recorded the first out of the frame but a double down the right field line one batter later scored the game-tying runs.
- Titus started a small Army rally in the top of the seventh when he drilled a one-out double to left center. After the 'Jacks recorded the second out of the frame Titus stole third to place himself in prime scoring position. A John McKenna walk then put runners on the corners before Martin singled through the left side to score the go-ahead run.
- The 'Jacks responded in the bottom half with a one-out solo shot over the left field fence to again tie the game at 4-4.
- Neither was able to notch the go-ahead run in the remaining two innings, forcing extras.
- Army finally broke through in the top of the 12th and was able to hold on in the bottom half for the one-run victory.
