In his fifth year as head coach, Smith led the Black Knights to their first Patriot League indoor title since 2010. His team scored 260 points with seven event titles. Army finished the regular season No. 1 in the region's Track & Field Rating Index. This is the first time that Smith has won this award in his tenure.

Smith Wins Northeast Region Coach Of The Year

WEST POINT - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Friday that Army West Point head coach Mike Smith has been named 2019 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Men's Coach of the Year in the Northeast Region.Â
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA programs are eligible for awards.
In his five seasons leading the men's track and field program, the Black Knights have increased their point total in the Indoor Patriot League Championship in each season.Â
Smith was recently named Patriot League Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year and was named Patriot League Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year in October.
