WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Athletics has announced the hiring of Jonathan Oliver as a Senior Associate Athletic Director for High Performance.
Â
"We are thrilled to have Jonathan joining the staff here at West Point," Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan said. "He brings a wealth of experience in student-athlete health and wellness, which is an area that is so important to us. Â
"I am honored and excited to work with the stellar coaches and staff that have contributed to the rich history of Army, but most importantly the cadets-athletes," Oliver said. "These young men and women have a greater mission and I am excited to be a part of their development as athletes, but also as future leaders."
Â
Before arriving at West Point, Oliver spent six years at Texas Christian University as an assistant professor within the department of kinesiology. In addition to his role as assistant professor, Oliver served as Director of The Sports Science Center at TCU, for which he also developed. As director, Oliver oversaw all aspects of the center's operations which provided a multidisciplinary approach to improving sport performance and athlete health for TCU athletics, local high schools, and professional sporting organizations.Â
Â
While at TCU Oliver also established the Sport Concussion Research group, a collaborative of national and international practitioners and scientists, devoted to reducing the number of sport-related concussions and improving outcomes following injury.
Â
Prior to his time at TCU, Oliver led a multidisciplinary team to improve performance and reduce injury in Naval Special Warfare Operators.Â
Â
Oliver is well-published in the fields of strength and conditioning and sports medicine with several invited presentations nationally and internationally. He remains an active member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.
Â
A native of McGregor, Texas, Oliver was originally trained in data analytics having received his bachelor of business administration in decision sciences from the University of North Texas. Oliver later completed his master of education and doctorate of philosophy in kinesiology at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University, respectively.Â
