WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Athletics finished 79th in the 2025-26 Division I LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, marking the department's second-highest finish in the award's history, and its highest finish since 2019, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced Thursday.
"This past year continued our momentum on the friendly fields of strife that is a reflection of the Army West Point athletic culture instilled from our great coaching and support staff and the 1,200 cadet-athletes," said Tom Theodorakis, director of athletics. "The commitment to providing an extraordinary cadet-athlete experience is the Army standard that we pursue every day. We are grateful for the support our cadet-athletes, coaches and teams receive from USMA graduates and our local, regional and national fans throughout the year."
Army's 79th-place finish was second among both Patriot League and American Conference members.
The Black Knights finished with 295.00 overall points, with a 98 fall season score, a 99.50 winter season score and a 98 spring season score.
Developed through a partnership between NACDA and USA Today, the Directors' Cup recognizes broad-based excellence across collegiate athletics. Points are awarded based on NCAA Championship finishes, with Division I scores calculated from 19 sports.
Army earned 45 points through its 2025 football season, in which the Black Knights knocked off Big 12 foe Kansas State, academy rival Air Force as well as UConn in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl.
The department grabbed 28 points in women's cross country, fueled by Charlotte Richman's NCAA Championships appearance. Meanwhile, a Patriot League Tournament title and an NCAA Championships berth by women's soccer secured 25 additional fall points.
The winter season saw the Black Knights compile 40 points in men's swimming & diving. The Black Knights sent Kohen Rankin and Johnny Crush to the NCAA DI Men's Swimming & Diving Championships for individual events as well as a trio of relay events. Army also sent Daniel Verdolaga, Thomas Hadji, Ben Vorthmann, Maxwell Jordan, and Joey Kling to Atlanta as members of its relay squads.
Four NCAA Wrestling Championship qualifiers from the Black Knights' wrestling room helped earn Army 27 points, with Ethan Berginc, Braden Basile, Gunner Filipowicz and Brady Colbert each contributing to the Director's Cup point total with berths to the tournament in Cleveland.
In April, Army West Point gymnastics made history, securing the team's highest ever finish at the NCAA Championship meet, finishing the event ninth nationally and claiming 32.5 points in the standings.
Army men's lacrosse swept the Patriot League regular season and tournament titles on its way to the NCAA Championships and earned 45 Director's Cup points over the 2026 season. Meanwhile, the women's lacrosse program qualified for an at-large spot in the national tournament for the second consecutive year and knocked off Fairfield in the first round of the NCAA Championships, to garner 53 director's cup points.
The 2026 Army football season kicks off vs. Bryant at Michie Stadium Preserved by USAA on September 5. Single-game tickets are available now for the 2026 season.
