WEST POINT - The Patriot League has announced that five members of the Army West Point track and field program have received league academic honors for the indoor track and field season.Â
Junior Lynne Mooradian received the league's highest academic honor, as she was named Patriot League Women's Indoor Track and Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. This marks the second consecutive season that Mooradian earned the honor, as she was named the league's Scholar Athlete of the Year following the 2018 outdoor track and field season.Â
"Lynne continues to shine on the track, in the field events and in the classroom," head coach Mike Smith said. "She is one of our leaders both by her example and in her role as team captain."
The junior mechanical engineering major carries a 4.21 cumulative grade point average and has won several academy, league and national academic awards during her time at West Point. Mooradian also earned her third academic all-League selection.Â
The Hanover, Pa., native earned a gold medal at the 2019 Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championship in the distance medley relay and a bronze medal in the women's pentathlon.Â
"She had a great indoor season and we look forward to her continued success in the outdoor season." Smith said.
In addition to Mooradian, four members of the program received Academic All-Patriot League honors.
From the women's track and field team, senior Cassie Mundekis and junior Haley Watson were selected. This marks the second career selection for Mundekis (English, 3.818) and first for Watson (political science, 3.645). Mundekis earned bronze in three events at the Patriot League Championship, while Watson earned gold in the distance medley relay, silver in the 800-meter run and bronze in the 4x800 meter relay.Â
From the men's track and field team, juniors Ben Petrella and Jackson Sullivan were selected.
