CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Army West Point softball team closed out its appearance at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with an emphatic 10-0 victory in five innings over Duke on Saturday afternoon.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
COACH'S CORNER
Interim Head Coach Bob Beretta – "I'm very proud of the way our team responded to a very difficult loss to UC Santa Barbara. What a great way to end our trip. Shutting out an ACC opponent is never easy, but we pitched extremely well and played solid defense. We executed extremely well throughout. We were able to speed the game up on Duke right from the start. We played with a tremendous sense of urgency and did not get complacent with that early 5-0 lead. We followed our formula and did a nice job of extending our lead. We swung the bats well against some quality pitchers, and I think that's something we can build upon.
"I am very proud of Macey Newbary. She was in complete control throughout the game and did a nice job of shutting down a strong offensive team. It will be nice to get back to work this week and prepare for the challenging schedule we will face in Florida."
