Army Sets Program Record in Victory Over Hartford

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team set a program record with 22 goals on Saturday in its triumph over Hartford.
The 22-5 victory shifted the Black Knights to 3-0 on the year, their best start in Academy history. The 17-point win was the Cadets' largest margin this season and their largest since Feb. 21, 2018 when they defeated Central Connecticut State, 21-4.
An impressive 14 different cadet-athletes tallied at least one goal in the game, while five of those 14 recorded multiple scores.
Leading the charge was junior Samantha Stewart, who posted a game-high four goals on five shots. Sophomore Jackie Brattan followed closely with a hat trick of her own. Also garnering three points in the game was Caroline Raymond, Logan Dougherty and Megan Raftery, as they each tallied one goal and two assists. Juliana Dworschak came away with three points as well, posting a pair of scores and an assist.
Maddie Burns earned the start and the win in goal for the Cadets, but Riley Roarick and Hannah Slomkowski posted two saves each during their time in the game.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights had 13 assists on 22 goals.
- The Cadets posted 35 points as a team, setting a program record.
- Stewart tallied her third hat trick in as many games.
- The junior now has eight in her career.
- Brattan notched her third hat trick of the season.
- The sophomore now has five in her career.
- She passed Rilee Scott for fifth in all-time scoring with 33 goals.
- Raymond tied Mikayla Bergin for seventh in all-time assists with nine.
- Raftery tied Kiersten Spencer for eighth in all-time helpers with seven.
- Emma Hampel and Anne Dunlap scored their first collegiate goals.
- Moira Callahan recorded her first career point.
- The Black Knights held a 48-9 shot advantage over the Hawks.
- Forty-one of Army's 48 shots were placed on goal.
- The Cadets won 21 draw controls.
- Army improved to 1-0 all-time versus Hartford.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army hit its stride right from the opening whistle and scored the first 12 goals of the game through the first 15:48 of the contest.
- The Black Knights had nine different goal scorers during the 12-0 run, including a hat trick from Brattan and a pair from Stewart.
- The Hawks got on the board at the 11:25 mark of the first half with a goal from Lauren Wehner and then Jessica Harrison found the back of the net to cut the Army lead to 10, 12-2, with 9:02 left in the stanza.
- Army closed out the half with Dworschak scoring her second of the day with 4:17 on the clock and the Black Knights took a 13-2 lead into the break.
- The Cadets kept the foot on the gas with the first five goals of the second half to push the lead to 18-2. Stewart had two goals during the run, while Manuela Cortes, Scott and Dougherty got in on the scoring.
- The Hawks scored three of the next four goals and had the Army lead down to 14, 19-5, with 11:20 left, but Army finished out the game with three unanswered scores to secure the 22-5 victory.
