CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Junior Samantha Stewart and freshman Caroline Raymond received Patriot League weekly honors after helping the Army West Point women's lacrosse team open its 2019 campaign with an 18-8 win over Iona this past weekend.
"We had a phenomenal team victory on Saturday due to the hard work and preparation of our 42 players put in during the offseason," Noto Family head women's lacrosse coach Kristen Skiera said. "Sami and Caroline helped set the tone for the start of our season with gritty individual performances and it's great to see them recognized after the opening week of play."
Stewart, who was named the league's midfielder of the week, had a standout performance opposite the Gaels. The New Canaan, Conn., native posted a hat trick after tying her career-high in goals scored with four. She also recorded a career-high six ground balls to pair with six draw controls in the Black Knights' win.
Raymond was stellar in her collegiate debut. The rookie tallied two scores and dished out a pair of assists to go along with two ground balls. She became the fourth freshman in program history to notch a multi-goal outing in her first collegiate contest.
The Black Knights return to action this Wednesday when they take on Hudson Valley rival Marist at 3 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
