Army Falls to Rutgers at Mercer Invitational

MACON, Ga. – The Army West Point softball team dropped a 12-4 decision in its final game of the Mercer Invitational on Sunday.

The Black Knights fell to 2-3 on the season, while the Scarlet Knights improved to 3-2.
Sophomore Grace Mattimore continued her success at the plate with her third multi-hit game with a double and a home run, on top of driving in three of Army's four runs in the game. Sophomore Ally Snelling and rookie Jolie Duong added extra-base hits with a pair of doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rutgers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Aleah Marra homered in the second at bat of the game.
- Mattimore brought the Black Knights back even with a two-RBI double in the home half of the frame, scoring Tessa Leman and Ashley Yoo.
- Her power surge continued the next time she stepped to the plate as the Ashburn, Va., native clubbed her third home run of the weekend to put Army ahead, 3-2, in the third inning.
- Erin Collins evened the score in the top of the fourth, however, with a solo shot of her own.
- The Scarlet Knights went on to score three runs in each of the final three innings to put the game out of reach.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army faced Rutgers for the first time since 2010.
- Mattimore drove in her 11th RBI of the weekend.
- The Ashburn, Va., product leads the team with six hits, five extra-base hits, three home runs and four walks.
- She is tied for the team lead with four runs scored and two doubles.
- Mattimore and Ballesteros extended their hitting streaks to four-straight games.
- Sophomore Ally Snelling smacked her fifth-career double.

- The Black Knights return to action on Friday with a doubleheader against CSUN at the CSUN Early Bird Classic. The games are slated to begin at 11 a.m. ET and 1:15 p.m. ET, respectively.
