WEST POINT, N.Y. - With big wins on the road by both the Army West Point hockey team and men's basketball team, Trevin Kozlowski and Matt Wilson share Army West Point Athletic Association Athlete of the Week honors heading into December break.Â
Kozlowski, a junior netminder from Los Angeles, Calif., earned his first-career shutout in Saturday's 4-0 victory over Robert Morris thanks to his 25 saves. He allowed just one score in the series at Robert Morris which was a power play goal. Kozlowski boasted a 0.48 goals against average and a .983 save percentage in the series. Kozlowski made the first save in the shootout to set Army up for the victory and was recognized as one of the NCAA Stars of the Week and the Atlantic Hockey Association Goalie of the Week.Â
The Black Knights are 12-5-1 heading into the winter break boasting the most wins in the first three months of action in program history. Army ranks fourth nationally in the penalty kill (.915), is tied for fourth in total wins (12) and is tied for seventh in winning percentage (.694).Â
Wilson played a pivotal role in a 1-1 week for Army. The senior averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 67 percent from the field. In a road tilt against Merrimack last Wednesday night, he tied for the team lead in scoring with 18 points and finished with a game-high 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year.
The Alexandria, Ky., native followed that performance with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting in an 89-76 road win at Buffalo, the defending MAC regular season and tournament champs who were coming off a road win against undefeated DePaul. Wilson was practically unstoppable in the second half versus the Bulls, scoring 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting to help Army grab a double-digit lead, which it held for the remainder of the game.
It was the second 20-point outing of the year for Wilson, who also extended his double-digit scoring streak to eight games. He moved into 20th in program history in career points scored. His efforts helped the Black Knights set a season-high in points scored en route to capturing their first win over Buffalo since Feb. 11, 1978.Â
