WEST POINT, N.Y. – On a night they honored their senior class, the Army West Point volleyball team closed out its home schedule with a victory over Patriot League foe Bucknell on Saturday night.
The evening started with a Senior Night ceremony honoring the team's four seniors: Nikki Lum, Allie Strong, Sydney Morriss and Courtney Horace. The group was congratulated on the court by Brigadier General Cindy Jebb, Army West Point Athletic Director Mike Buddie, Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA Kristine Fowler and the entire Army volleyball staff.
After their on-court recognition, the group helped carry the team to one of its most complete victories of the season. The Cadets were strong across the board on this night, hitting .327 in the match. Horace (11) and Strong (10) were among the three Black Knights to reach double-digit kills. A night after she set her career high in assists, Nikki Lum again led the team with a match-high 24 assists. Morriss was one of two players with double-digit digs with 10.
"I'm so proud of this group of seniors," Head Coach Alma Kovaci Lee said. "They played with grit, toughness and maturity and not only that, but they excelled at every aspect of the game tonight. Courtney out of system was amazing, Nikki distributed great balls, Sydney not only hit well but defended very well and Allie as always is a six-rotation player that we can rely on."
In addition to the senior class, Emmy Barnhorst tied for the team lead with 11 kills to go along with a .421 hitting percentage. Libero Ana Oglivie had a match-high 17 digs. Monica Eckford hit .571 on the night with 8 kills.
"This group will be missed," Kovaci Lee said. "I can't say enough about how important they are to our team. I have never seen the gym decorated like this and you can see how important they are to this program. They have high standards and have left a great legacy. This win is for them."
The Black Knights have two matches remaining on their regular season schedule as they head to Lafayette on Tuesday before closing out the regular season at Loyola on Saturday.
