Black Knights Fall to William & Mary in Season-Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team opened its 2019-20 season with a 77-65 loss to William & Mary Tuesday evening at Christl Arena.
The Black Knights had three different members put up double figures. Leading the effort was Lindsey Scamman, who registered a career-high 22 points. Also reaching double-digit scoring were Sabria Hunter, who had 15 points, and Sarah Bohn, who put registered 14.
The Tribe turned to reigning Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year Eva Hodgson for much of their offensive production. Hodgson tallied a game-high 27 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Army starts off its three-game road stretch this Sunday at Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., with tip-off set for 5 p.m. ET. Following that contest the Black Knights will face service academy foe Air Force on Wednesday, Nov. 13 in USAF Academy, Colo.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- This marked the just the fourth all-time matchup between the two schools and was the first game in the series at Christl Arena. William & Mary has ended up on the winning side in each of the four matchups.
- As a team, Army shot .833 (10-of-12) from the charity stripe.
- The Black Knights won the rebounding battle 41-27.
- Scamman also collected 11 rebounds, to finish with her first career double-double.
- The sophomore from 29 Palms, Calif., shot 8-13 from the field and was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. Last season, she attempted just four shots from beyond the arc.
- In her collegiate debut, Hunter registered 15 points coming off the bench.
- Hunter also contributed seven rebounds, three of which came on the offensive glass.
- Bohn played a career high 39 minutes. For the fifth time in her career she three three-pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- The Tribe went on a 12-2 scoring run to gain some early separation, after the contest started out tied at 4-4.
- As a team, William & Mary shot .444 from the field in the opening quarter, while the Black Knights struggled to connect on shots, shooting .267.
Second Quarter
- By the 7:28 mark of the second quarter, the Tribe had built its lead to 31-14. Though, Army would go on a 15-5 run to end the first half to make the tally 36-29 in favor of the Tribe at the break.
- Army was 4-of-5 from the free throw line in the second quarter. Additionally, as a team it shot .467 from the field.
- Leading the scoring efforts in the second quarter were Bohn (8 points) and Alisa Fallon (7).
Third Quarter
- William & Mary jumped out to a 17-2 run out of the break to take the 53-31 lead with 4:48 left in the quarter. Army would work to narrow the deficit to 14 points by the end of the quarter.
- Scamman was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in the third frame, totaling 10 points.
Fourth Quarter
- With just over four minutes left, Army cut the Tribes lead to 68-60 after Hunter converted on two old-fashioned three-point plays in the span of two minutes.
- Though, the Tribe was able to fend off Army's hopes of a late comeback bid.
