Army Announces 2020 Gymnastics Schedule

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point gymnastics head coach Dr. Doug Van Everen has announced the team's 2020 schedule which includes the annual season opening West Point Open and a trip to Annapolis, Md., for the Army-Navy Star Meet.
"Our schedule and training will set up the team to again qualify for NCAA's," Van Everen said. "We will be ready for success against Navy and Air Force, and we will go into the All-Academy at full speed."
The Black Knights will begin competition on Jan. 10 with the preliminary round of the West Point open at Christl Arena. That event will conclude on Jan. 11.
The team then heads on the road to take on Penn State on Jan. 18. The Nittany Lions finished sixth at the NCAA Championships in 2019. The annual Army-Navy Star Meet will be held on Feb. 1 in Annapolis, Md.. Army and Navy have alternated results in each of the past seven seasons with the Midshipmen claiming the victory in last year's event. The two service academies will meet again a week later as part of the All-Academy Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
Army's next home meet will take place on Feb. 29 when the team takes on service academy rival Air Force. The Falcons have won the past two meetings. This will mark the beginning of a three-week homestand for the Black Knights as they will take on William & Mary on March 7 and then will hold a tri-meet with Springfield and Temple on March 14. Â
The postseason will begin at West Point with Army hosting the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on April 4.
"Hosting the conference meet will be a great event for the team," Van Everen said. "Starting off strong at the West Point Open will get us going, and we know we will have Eastern Champions and an All-American this year!"
The 2020 NCAA Gymnastics Championships will be held in Ann Arbor, Mich. from April 16-18 and the Black Knights will aim to qualify as a team for the second consecutive season.
