October 11, 2019 | Volleyball
LEWISBURG, Pa, - The Army West Point volleyball team secured its first road win of the 2019 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Patriot League foe Bucknell on Friday.Â
After dropping the first set 25-20, the Black Knights (12-6, 3-2) righted the ship to take the next three sets to clinch their seventh consecutive victory over the Bison.Â
"That's a good W for the Army team," Head coach Alma Kovaci Lee said. "We did not have a good start, but we got better and better as the match went on and earned the win."Â
Sophomore Emmy Barnhorst delivered her best offensive performance of the season, notching a season-high 16 kills to go along with a strong .333 hitting percentage. Senior Sydney Morriss recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs. This marks the third consecutive 15-dig game from Morriss, who never recorded more than 14 digs in her first three seasons at West Point. Setters Hannah Presley and Nikki Lum both added 22 assists in the match. Freshman Madison Wendel also saw her first extended action of her Army career, recording four kills and five digs.Â
Army played its best volleyball in set three, posting 15 kills and three blocks with just one attack error in the frame. A .583 hitting percentage in the set paved the way for their 25-17 advantage, giving the team a lead in the match that they never relinquished.Â
"Any time you can grab a win on the road is big," Kovaci Lee said. "We will be heading to Lehigh tonight for another tough conference match tomorrow."Â
The Black Knights matchup with Lehigh gets started at 4 p.m. on Saturday and can be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
