Black Knights Take Down Marist In Straight Sets
October 01, 2019 | Volleyball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point volleyball team won its tenth game of the season in a non-conference matchup with Marist on Tuesday.
Playing in their third match in five days, the Black Knights (10-5) bounced back from a tough loss on Saturday to knock off the Red Foxes in straight sets 3-0.
"I thought we did a great job in the first two sets," Head coach Alma Kovaci Lee said. "We were focused, we were determined and we took care of the ball. You have to give Marist credit for fighting back in the third set with their serves. But I like when the end of the match gets tight and we are forced to finish off a team like that. I am proud of the team."
Army relied heavily on a strong serve game, posting 10 aces in the match. Libero Ana Oglivie was at the forefront, recording a career high five aces to go along with her match-high 10 digs.
Monica Eckford was the team's top offensive threat on the night, recording the match's only double-digit kills game with 11. She did so with an impressive .562 hitting percentage.
"A midweek match after a long weekend of matches is tough, but I'm proud of how the team was able to focus and get the job done," Kovaci Lee said. "Now we get to relax and then get ready for another big weekend of conference matches."
Army returns to action with its fourth consecutive home match when the team takes on Holy Cross on Saturday at 7 pm.
