BOSTON – The Army West Point women's basketball team kicked off its Patriot League schedule on Thursday evening and fell at Boston University, 63-51.

Madison Hovren led Army with 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Sarah Bohn had nine point on 3-of-5 shooting from distance, while Jess Lewis and Lindsey Scamman contributed with seven points each.

The Terriers saw four of their five starts reach double digits with Payton Hauck scoring a game-high 14 points. Naiyah Thompson was all over the court with 13 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, while also recording two blocks. Boston University shot 43 percent from the floor and had 40 of its 63 points come from the paint.

- The Black Knights are 10-3 in Patriot League openers under head coach Dave Magarity.
- This was the first Patriot League opener against Boston University for the Black Knights.
- Army leads the all-time series at 9-6, but Boston U. has won three of the last four meetings.
- Jessica Rawls made the second start of her career for the Black Knights.
- Morgann Yancey has started in each of Army's last four games.
- Hovren reached double digits in scoring for the 11th time this season and 65th time in her career.
- She was held under 10 rebounds for the first time since the Binghamton game on Nov. 25 and only the third time all year.
- Bohn hit three shots from distance for the second-straight game and is 7-of-10 from three this season.
- She joins Lewis as the only two on the team to have made three or more shots from beyond-the-arc in at least two games this year.
- Army tied a season high with 10 steals, matching the mark set at TCU on Dec. 3.
- The Black Knights were outrebounded for the fourth time this year and for the first time since their visit to TCU.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- The Black Knights and Terriers traded baskets through the first five minutes of the game with Boston U. leading 8-7 at the 4:53 mark.
- The Terriers then went on a 10-1 run late in the frame and led 20-11 with 11 seconds left.
- Bohn was Army's leading scorer in the quarter with six points and hit her second three of the frame in the final seconds to make it a 20-14 game.
- Army got to within five in the opening moments of the quarter with Hovren making a nice steal and layup to cut the Boston U. lead to 22-17.
- The Terriers answered with Katie Nelson hitting back-to-back 3-pointers to push the advantage up to 28-17 with 7:27 remaining in the period.
- Boston University was able to build to it largest lead at 32-21 with 4:52 remaining, but Army answered. The Black Knights closed out the half with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 34-30. Jess Lewis hit a 3-pointer, while Gabby White, Alisa Fallon and Rawls contributed with points as well over that stretch.
- The home squad came out ready to play in the first part of the third quarter and pushed its lead to 42-30 thanks to an 8-0 run over the opening five minutes.
- Army tried to cut into the advantage with Hovren hitting a layup with 1:24 left to make it an 11-point game at 46-35, but the Terriers got a 3-pointer from Hauck and an three-point play from Nelson to push the lead to the largest of the night at 52-35.
- Hovren put home a layup with 14 seconds left to head into the final quarter with a 15-point deficit at 52-37.
- The quarter started off great for the Black Knights with an 8-2 run to slice the Terrier lead to nine at 54-45 with 5:23 on the clock. Gabby White had a pivital steal and a layup, while Scamman added four points during the run as well.
- Hauck answered Scamman's second layup with one of her own to stop the run and get the lead back up to double digits with 4:54 left.
- Bohn then sunk her third three of the night to make it an eight-point game, but that was the closest Army got as the Terriers closed out the game for a 63-51 victory.
