WEST POINT, N.Y. – After helping the Army West Point men's swimming and diving team secure a pair of Patriot League duals against Lehigh and Bucknell this past weekend, sophomore Brian McKenrick was named the AWPAA Athlete of the Week.
McKenrick shined in the pool, delivering four individual event victories while helping the Black Knights capture a pair of relay wins over a two-day stretch.
His successful weekend began on Friday when he swam the opening leg of the first-place 200 medley relay squad opposite Lehigh. He followed that performance up with back-to-back victories in the 100 and 200 back after posting times of 50.49 and 1:51.12, respectively. McKenrick rounded out the meet with a second-place showing in the 200 IM once he touched the wall at 1:54.48.
A day later, the Black Knights visited Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa., and McKenrick once again helped the 200 medley relay team finish first. The Wayne, Pa., native additionally won the 100 back (50.88) and 200 back (1:52.17) at the league dual meet.
McKenrick and the Black Knights will look to continue their success when they head to Fairfax, Va., on Saturday to take on American, Old Dominion and George Mason in a quad meet.
