Army Takes Lead in Star Match Against Navy

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point golf team took a 3.5-0.5 lead after day one in the Star match against Navy on Saturday at the West Point Golf Course.

The Black Knights enter Sunday's singles play with the lead and is looking to capture its sixth Star in the last seven matches. The first day featured four-ball competition.

MATCH NOTES
• The duo of Nick Turner and Sam Yom defeated Navy's Thomas Garbee and Paul Mauer 1-up, by winning the 18th hole after being all square heading into the final hole.
• Gunnar Doyle and Tom Katsenes had the most lopsided victory of the match with a victory over Navy's Charlie Musto and Michael Brennan, 3-and-1.
• Justin Williamson and Matt Plunkett won their match 2-up over Navy's Griffin Peters and Matthew Starobin.
• James McKee and Thomas Messner halved their match with Jake Miles and Ward Wilkinson. Messner hit a clutch birdie on the 17th to make the match all-square heading into the final hole.

The Black Knights will look to capture the Star with eight singles matches heading out onto the course at 8:30 a..m. Sunday morning.
