HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
- Cassalia was tested early, but was up to the task as she stopped a shot from distance at the 1:40 mark for the only save of the half by either team.
- Johns gave Army its first scoring chance of the afternoon after getting her head on a cross from Morgan Walsh at the 30-minute mark, but her shot sailed over the crossbar.
- At 38:00, Sarah Chamberlin started the play with a pass to Kalie Rosenberger who threaded a through ball for Johns, putting her one-on-one with the Gaels' goalkeeper. Johns sent her second shot just left of the far post after taking a shot from the top of the box.
- Iona posed a threat early in the second half as Faith Preziosi stopped a pass near the touch line, dribbled back toward the middle of the box and fired a turn-around shot that missed right of the target.
- At the 57:28 mark, Walsh sent in a cross from the right toward the far post where she found a cutting Emily Torres who pulled her volley left of the goal.
- Army broke the scoreless tie in the 87th minute when a Johns' cross made its way through three Gaels' defenders and onto the foot of Westman. The senior midfielder needed just one touch before burying her shot into the top left corner of the goal past the diving Iona goalie.
