Cadets Streak Hits 10 Straight with Wednesday Win
April 18, 2018 | Baseball
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Army West Point baseball team earned its 10th-consecutive win here Wednesday night thanks to a 6-3 victory over Holy Cross.
The Black Knights remain atop the Patriot League standings with a 12-2 mark, while the Crusaders fall to 6-7 for fourth place in the conference.
It was a pitcher's duel for much of the early going as the two starting hurlers allowed just two hits in the first three innings.
The Cadets finally broke through in the fourth after Jon Rosoff was hit by a pitch with one out. John McKenna shifted him over to second following a single to right field to place two runners on base. The Crusaders registered the second out of the frame but during the ensuing at bat Rosoff advanced over to third on a passed ball. Trey Martin then beat out an infield single, which allowed the senior to score for the game's first run.
One inning later the Black Knights tacked on three additional runs thanks to a big one-out double to left field. The Cadets earned three walks in the frame to load the bases for Rosoff, who posted his team-leading ninth double of the year.
The Crusaders cut into the deficit in the sixth with two runs on one hit to make things interesting at 4-2.
Both teams tallied one run in the eighth to make it a 5-3 ballgame but one final insurance run by Army in the ninth ultimately put the game out of reach.
Cam Opp was credited with his third win on the mound after going 5.1 innings allowing just four hits and two runs. The junior struck out a game-high six while out on the hill as well.
Jacob Carte earned his team-leading fourth save of the year after closing out the final 1.0 innings giving up only one hit.
Rosoff's three-run double was a big difference marker for the Black Knights. He finished 1-for-4 with three runs batted in and one run. Drake Titus and Josh White touched home plate a team-high two times, while Titus earned a season-high four walks.
