Army’s Winning Streak Halted at Fenway Park
April 20, 2018 | Baseball
BOSTON - The Army West Point baseball team had its 10-game winning streak snapped following a 4-0 loss to rival Navy here Friday night.
The two adversaries played on neutral grounds at historic Fenway Park behind a crowd of more than 6,400. This marked the second time this season Army and Navy met at an Major League Baseball venue as the two played a doubleheader earlier this year at Camden Yards.
The Mids received stellar pitching from their junior ace Noah Song. The righty went the distance allowing just three hits and two walks in the shutout.
Army saw Jon Rosoff, John McKenna and Anthony Giachin all register a hit, while McKenna and Giachin's knocks were for extra bases
Navy scored one run in the opening frame after a two-out single from Zach Biggers brought home Christian Hodge, who had recorded a double earlier in the inning.
Army's starting pitcher Tyler Giovinco then settled down to allow just two hits over the next 17 batters to keep it a one-run ballgame.
Unfortunately, a lead-off home run to left field in the sixth extended the Mids' lead to 2-0. Navy then added one final two-out, two-run long ball in the seventh to ultimately put the game out of reach.
Giovinco gave up seven hits, two walks and three runs in 6.2 innings on the mound. He dips to 5-4 on the year, while Song shifts to 6-2.
