Black Knights Fall to #13/12 Navy in Star Game
April 14, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-7 decision to #13/12 Navy in the inaugural Star game on Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium.
The Mids jumped out to an early 5-1 lead with Army's lone goal in the first 10 minutes of play coming from the stick of rookie Cameron Manor on a free position shot. The Black Knights hung with the highly-ranked visitors throughout the next 25 minutes, however, including matching the Mids' four goals throughout the rest of the opening period.
The Black Knights battled for, and won, the opening draw of the second half which led to co-captain Kiersten Spencer netting her fourth goal of the year on a feed from Rilee Scott. The Mahwah, N.J., native's tally drew the home team within three at 9-6, but that would be the closest Army would come to its service-academy rivals.
Navy responded with an 11-1 run throughout the remainder of the period, including an 8-0 run that lasted 13 minutes and 42 seconds.
Manor scored a team-high two goals, while Scott, Spencer, Megan Raftery, Jackie Brattan and Beth Hofmann also found the back of the cage.
