Black Knights Place Fifth in Philadelphia

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point women's track and field team claimed fifth at the Penn Challenge hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday.Â
Army placed fifth of eight teams in Philadelphia, out-scoring St. John's, La Salle, and Rider, with a score of 58 points. The University of Pennsylvania won the meet with a score of 146.6.
COACH'S QUOTES
"We performed well today without really loading the team all that much," said head coach Mike Smith. "We are pointing toward the championship meets so we came into this meet hoping to get a better look at some of our developmental athletes and fine tune some things with a select group of key athletes. Today was more about getting in the work than anything else."
"Our throws group continues to impress. Briyah Brown in particular, has been on a tear recently. She had personal best marks in the discus and the hammer throw today. She has been determined to improve in those events so it has been nice to see her take charge and set the tone for our team. She is a great example of the power of perseverance. She has been good for us for a long time and had plateaued for a little bit, but has figured some things out and the results are starting to show."
"We also had some nice improvements on the track, and we got lucky with the weather today. All in all, I thought the team handled the week and this meet pretty well."
