ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Springman pitched her fourth consecutive complete game and picked up her fourth win of the season.
- It was the eighth straight start for the first-year pitcher in which she allowed two or fewer earned runs.
- Lacey Swafford reached base safely for the 11th consecutive game.
- Julia Wyatt drove in her first collegiate run with an RBI in the second inning.
- Emily Ballesteros hit her second two-bagger of the season.
- After that hit, she became the first Cadet to reach 20 hits this season.
- Kristen McPeek notched her second double of the season.
- Five different Cadets recorded a hit in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights put a pair of runners into scoring position in each of the first two innings. After failing to capitalize in the first, Army took advantage of the situation in the second. Wyatt sent a ball to the right side of the infield and the runner at third scampered home to put Army on the board.
- In the fifth, Swafford reached on a Yale fielding error and that was followed by a McPeek walk. With runners on first and second and one out in the frame, Ballesteros came up and blasted a ball to deep center for a two-RBI double.
- Yale chipped into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning after a run crossed on a wild pitch with runners on second and third to make it 3-1.
- That was as close as the Bulldogs would get as Springman worked through two perfect frames to close things out and secure the win.
GAME 2: YALE 4, ARMY 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the second tilt of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs scored first off a two-run homer to right center in the first inning of play.
- After a pair of walks in the second frame, Ally Snelling came up to hit with two outs and shot a ball up the middle to drive in a run.
- Following back-to-back singles from Amelia Trotter and Grace Mattimore to lead off the fourth, Army plated a run after a costly fielding error by a Yale infielder. Runners were at first and second with one out, but Yale worked out of the jam.
- The Bulldogs wasted no time and recaptured the lead in the bottom of the fourth. It started with a single to left and after the runner was sacrificed over, she scored on an RBI single to right.
- Yale tacked on an additional run in the fifth to extend its lead to two, 4-2.
- Army had runners in scoring position when Madison Cole pinch hit in the top of the sixth. The sophomore sent the ball through the left side and a run came in to score. The Black Knights tried to squeeze another run in on the play, but the runner was thrown out at the plate.
- Following a quick bottom half of the sixth, Army had one final chance to even the score up. However, the Black Knights were retired in order and the Bulldogs captured the 4-3 win.
UP NEXT
