Black Knights Shut Out by Stetson, 6-0

DELAND, Fla. – The Army West Point baseball team dropped a 6-0 decision to Stetson here Tuesday night at Melching Field at Conrad Park.
The Hatters, who were nationally ranked in two polls heading into the week, tallied two runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to break a scoreless deadlock and take a 5-0 edge. Stetson was voted 12th in the Collegiate Baseball poll and 28th in the NCBWA poll.
The home team then tacked on one additional run in the eighth to create a 6-0 gap between the teams.
The Black Knights tried to rally but only managed two hits in the game against a pitching staff who ranks second in the nation in ERA.
Garrett Houston and Anfernee Crompton were credited with Army's lone hits in the game after they tallied back-to-back singles in the second inning.
Starting pitcher Jacob Carte had a solid outing allowing just four hits in the opening five innings before running into some difficulty in the sixth. He closed out his night giving up eight hits, two runs and one walk in 5.1 innings of work. The junior fanned three while on the hill as well.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Matt Hudgins earned a game-high three walks.
- Jon Rosoff threw out a season-best five runners trying to steal, including two in the sixth inning alone.
- The Black Knights had their best scoring change in the second when they loaded the bases with one out. Unfortunately, Stetson recorded a fielder's choice and a strikeout to strand the runners.
- Army used five pitchers in the game to just two for the Hatters.
- Two Stetson players notched multiple hits.
- Stetson notched its sixth shutout of the year and its ninth-consecutive win.
- Starting pitcher Joey Gonzalez has now posted 23 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings on the hill for the Hatters
FACTS & FIGURES
- Stetson compiled six runs off of 12 hits. Army finished with no runs on just two hits.
- The Cadets were tagged with the only error in the game and it came during the eighth inning.
- The Black Knights left six runners on base. The Hatters stranded nine.

- Army and Stetson will meet again on Wednesday for the final game of this two-game series. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
