Monken Tabbed Finalist for Munger Coach of Year

PHILADELPHIA – Army West Point head football coach Jeff Monken was announced as one of six finalists for the 2018 George Munger Collegeiate Coach of the Year Award, presented by the Maxwell Football Club (MFC).

Monken joins Dino Babers (Syracuse University), Bill Clark (University of Alabama Birmingham), Brian Kelly (Notre Dame), Mike Leach (Washington State), and Nick Saban (Alabama) as a finalist.

Monken has taken a slow and steady approach in building his program at West Point. After winning six games between his first two seasons, Monken led his Army team to an 8-5 record in 2016, highlighted by his first win over Navy. Monken followed that up with a 10-win season last year, and he matched those numbers again with another 10-win season in 2018. Army has an opportunity to set a new school record for wins in a season with a victory over Houston in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas, on Dec. 22.

Voting opens Tuesday December 11th for the finalist selection for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year. Eligible voters include NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and football Sports Information Directors, Maxwell Football Club members and selected national media. The winner announcement will be made on January 3, 2018, and the award will be formally presented at the 82nd Maxwell Awards Gala, which will be held on March 8, 2019 at the Tropicana Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
