Bateman Voted a Finalist for Broyles Award

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The top five finalists for the Broyles Award was announced on Monday and defensive coordinator earned a spot on the list for the top assistant coach in the nation.Â
The Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation narrowed down the semifinalist list of 15 to the five finalists. The list was selected by the Football Writers Association of America and a 19-person committee of distinguished former head coaches, according to the Broyles Foundation.
The finalists include:
Alabama - Michael Locksley, Offensive Coordinator
Army - Jay Bateman, Defensive Coordinator
Clemson - Jeff Scott, Co-Offensive Coordinator/WRs
Mississippi State - Bob Shoop, Defensive Coordinator/Safeties
Notre Dame - Chip Long, Offensive Coordinator
Each finalist will be invited to the award ceremony in Little Rock on Dec. 4. KATV will air the award show live on Channel 7, on KATV.com and on Facebook starting at 11:30 a.m.
Bateman has coached the Army defense to a national ranking of 11th in total defense. The Black Knights have been impressive against the run as they are 12th in nation and they have held their opponents in check, allowing 18.7 points per game, which is 16th in the country.Â
