Army Caps Season at Boston U. in PL Semifinals

BOSTON – The Army West Point women's soccer team saw its 2018 season come to an end in the Patriot League Semifinals after dropping a 3-0 decision to top-seeded Boston University on Friday afternoon.
The Black Knights close out Adrian Blewitt's first season as head coach with a record of 7-6-7, their most wins since 2014.
Army battled throughout much of the first half before conceding the first goal in the 40th minute to head into halftime facing a 1-0 deficit. The home side was awarded a penalty kick in the 68th minute and added an insurance tally in the 72nd minute to secure the victory.
The Terriers outshot the sixth-seeded Black Knights, 17-4, including an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Emily Torres, Erynn Johns, Sydney Witham and Mia Padon all registered shots for the visiting side, while sophomore goalie Sydney Cassalia made five saves in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
- Shannon Keefe opened the scoring for BU at the 39:57 mark when Taylor Kofton sent her in one-on-one with Cassalia on a through ball from mid-field. Keefe took one touch before sending a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner.
- A hand ball in the box allowed McKenna Kennedy a penalty kick opportunity which she converted to give the top-seeded Terriers a two-goal advantage.
- In the 72nd minute, Kofton dribbled down the left side of the box before centering the ball to Keefe for her second goal of the game.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army's .526 winning percentage was its highest since 2013.
- The Black Knights made their 18th appearance in the Patriot League Semifinals and first since 2011.
- This was the first postseason meeting between Army and Boston U.
- Kayleigh Stallings, Cassalia, Torres and Witham started every game for the Black Knights in 2018.
- Cassalia closed out the season with a 0.72 goals-against average, the fifth-lowest in program history.
- The Omaha, Neb., native's five saves brings her season total to 108, the ninth-most in a single season.
- Johns led the Black Knights offensively with 11 points and five assists.
- Morgan Walsh scored a team-high four goals in 2018.
- The senior class of Nikiay Comer, Lauryn Westman, Sarah Chamberlin, Witham and Stallings contributed to more than 29-percent of Army's offense this year after contributing 14 points with each player contributing at least one point.
- Comer made her fourth start of the season and fifth of her career.
- The Bradenton, Fla., native finished with a career-high 430 minutes played and recorded her first-career assist.
- Westman set personal bests in games played (20), starts (16), points (3), assists (1), shots (16) and minutes played (1,028).
- Stallings started in each of Army's last 38 games in the midfield.
- The Fairfax, Va., native set season highs with 13 shots and 1,825 minutes played.
- Witham suited up in the Black and Gold for the 70th time in her career.
- The team captain from Crown Point, Ind., notched a personal-best five points with her first-career goal and three assists.
- She played more than 6,300 minutes in her collegiate career for Army.
- Chamberlin played in her 40th career game this afternoon.
- The Calabasas, Calif., native earned all 11 of her starting nods as a senior in 2018, while scoring her first career points with a goal and two assists.
- She added career highs in shots (15), shots on goal (3) and minutes played (1,221).
